Mary Tavegia Consultant

Mary has 37 years of educational experience in schools in Iowa and Illinois with 33 years in La Grange School District 102. During her 17 years of teaching in District 102, she worked as both a special education teacher and a general education teacher and she also served as President of the Education Association for the district. She spent 16 years as a K-6 Principal where she led her school’s implementation of inclusionary special education practices, Response to Intervention, data driven instruction and social emotional learning (SEL), an area of focus that brought her school national recognition for the successful implementation of SEL throughout the school community. Mary was a gubernatorial appointment to the Executive Board of the Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership and co-chaired the School Policies and Standards Sub-Committee for six years. She served on the committee that wrote the Illinois Learning Standards for Social and Emotional Learning. In addition to her work with CEC, Mary is currently providing consultation and professional development for schools across country as they implement SEL.

Mary has a Bachelor’s Degree from Clarke College in Elementary Education and Psychology. She holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Iowa and she earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from National Louis University.
