David Osta is the Senior Director for School Improvement Grants. He joined CEC in 2013 and has worked with schools and districts in the areas of system assessment, strategic planning and teacher evaluation.
He has extensive experience in education policy, serving as the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Race to the Top (RttT) Director where he was responsible for coordinating cross agency efforts to implement the $42.8 million RttT grant and support the participating districts. Before his service at ISBE, he was Associate Director of Policy for the New Teacher Center (NTC), supporting policy and advocacy efforts for new teacher induction and mentoring in Illinois.
David has also worked as a project director at the New Teacher Project (TNTP), designing research on teacher effectiveness, and staffed a teacher preparation policy commission for the Michigan State Superintendent. David began his career teaching 5th grade in Washington, DC as a Teach for America corps member and then taught middle school math and science in Chicago at Perspectives Charter School.
David earned his B.A. (cum laude) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his M.A. in public policy from the Gerald R. Ford School at the University of Michigan.More CEC Staff & Consultants
